Colour Screening

Visual Stress Screening

At Wood and Watson Opticians, we are dedicated to providing our patients with the highest quality eye care services.

Before proceeding with a  visual stress screening, an eye examination is first required to assess any other underlying concerns before we proceed with the colorimetry screening.

In the initial screening, first carry out a Pattern Glare Test . One example is the image on the right - if when staring at it for more than a few seconds may cause nausea and dizziness, particularly in individuals with migraines, for adults as well as children.

We then  systematically test overlays of different colour, to see if a specific colour reduces your symptoms.  these overlays are sheets of transparent colour placed over the text.

Once we have found a specific helpful colour, we the carry out Wilkins Rate of Reading Test.

This measures the difference in reading speed, in how fast you can read over a short period of time, comparing with, and then without the specific coloured overlay.

If a benefit is found with the coloured overlay, then an A4 coloured overlay of the preferred colour is prescribed for use at home /school for 8-12 weeks.
